THE ART OF PLATING

Hello again! Today we are going to be talking about food plating. Why it is compulsory to you know how to plate? how to plate? and how it would distinguish you out.

This topic is not only important to chefs and caterers but also to wives and anyone hoping to make a never to forget experience for loved ones or customers. Plating is simply the pleasant creative ways food can be presented to whom the Food may concern!

This might be your customer, loved ones, judges etc and this is done as I said earlier to create an experience or attraction. It is said that the way to a man’s heart is through his mouth, I find that to be quite true at least for me Loll..

Not only must you know how to cook but the presentation must be lovely to the gaze. Okay…. Let me show some examples before we move to how to plate food.

Now You See! Let me just add at this junction that Love for food and for the person you want to serve makes you want to go the extra mile

To do more and it’s time we move a bit higher from the old age ways our food is being presented. (Kk, let’s go to tips on plating before I get emotional)

PLATING TIPS AND IDEAS

Use A Set Of Fine Plates

This is important so any magic you decide to perform will show, the distinctive lines, curves and fills will be evident without unnecessary interruptions from plate designs.
There rims of the plate might be designed but not inside.

  •  Be Creative and Make It simple

Except you are a professional chef and you have all the machine and equipments, you don’t have to start constructing.

Most times, it’s just a little bit adjustments here and there; addition of raw beautifully cut veggies etc However, let the creativity come from inside, envision it..

You can even draw on paper first.. Lol but anyway, the whole “wahala” is just to make eating appealing and interesting.

Use Of Purees

Purees are food usually vegetables and fruits that are blended into pastes for example apple sauce, egusi pureè etc.

In traditional Nigerian foods, oils, stew, ketchup, mayonnaise etc are used to form lines, curves, designs and dots. They give food a lovely and professional look.

 Copy And Paste

Now I’m laughing but seriously, nobody came from heaven with this tricks and amazing stuffs. I for instance im a food network addict. I watch night and day whenever I’m free.

“if idea no gree come”, steal or take one from the professionals and thank them later. They will be happy.

One of such people I sometimes take inspiration from is Chef Ramsay Gordon.

Please don’t be ashamed, one day, after copying, you will be a master of your own.. It’s called the power of observation and imitation. Your genius will come out!
